Last week the actual size of the new career learning curve was revealed. I think my neck still hurts from looking up to see the top of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have I told you how much I love my new job? I do! It's absolutely everything I have ever wanted to do. I have a solid foundation of clients, I am now teaching a couple of classes a week, and I am able to live in a town that supports my desire to make fitness a lifestyle.
I am fulfilled. I am entertained. I am happy. I am able to sleep well. (Not often, but well.) I feel healthy and strong.
I will admit though that there is just so much to learn about the business aspect of being a personal trainer. That's why my neck hurts! The curve is very large!
I have been studying for a my second fitness certification so there have been some elements of the business that have had to be put on the back burner. Once I passed the test on Friday, (yipee), I could begin to feel the heat.
Due to many years of the restaurant business, I am able to put the stresses of a new career into perspective. I am constantly comparing the learning curve to waiting on a table of 25 military men who all want separate checks but who all refuse to stay in the same chair!
My approach was always to write everything down. To remember each man by the shirt that he wore. To be the one in control of my section. And to always remain calm. (I did this as good as I could.)
Consistency plays a very large part to staying in control of the situation. Without consistency, there will be no progress, for a constant stop and go approach will not move one forward. As life gets busier by the minute, and I can feel this from all of my clients as well, I find myself in need of staying more in control. Remaining in control will produce consistency in my career and in my personal life. Knowing what I have to and want to do weekly, monthly, and annually allows me to always be able to see the process.
The learning curve can be overwhelming for there is just so much to do to remain in control of my career. I will have to be a determined worker. I will have to be dedicated. I will have to be ambitious. The key to staying on top of the learning curve will be to consistently be working. Consistency will enable me to continue moving forward even when I find myself digging through all of the things that I need to do to keep on top of it all. It will require a steadfast work ethic. Personal and career success will depend on my ability to be in control and remain calm and realistic. It will require fortuitousness.
I have the choice. I can remain overwhelmed or I can make a plan. A plan will define the time line and can begin the process of accomplishing that what is necessary to learn what is presented in the curve. Without a plan, there is no direction.
This week I urge you to make a plan for your fitness, for your career, and for your personal life. Write everything down. Develop an approach to taking steps forward to getting things done. Remain in control. And be consistent.
Your work is what you put in it...............................................
