What a weekend. I have over indulged on cookies, cupcakes, guacamole, chips, pizza, coffee, Sex and the City, rest, and love! Ahh, I have a had a great time.
Now it's time to get back on track, but oh how I have enjoyed the great pleasures of a birthday weekend. And that's what it is all about. I work hard and I will play hard. I will be honest, at times I was thinking of my Bikini Goal and feeling just a bit guilty, however, the guilt was surpassed by the amazingly sweet decadence of junk food, passion and lust. I needed a weekend like this to put it all into perspective, to feel joy in my heart again, and to just purposely not think about goals and body aspirations for a moment.
I do everything with purpose and determination. Someone asked me the other day if I am enjoying what I do. I of course answered yes, a truthful answer to a vulnerable question. It is true, I do enjoy my job, but I do know what provoked the question. At times I am feverishly driven with great fervor and a bull-headed stubbornness. Enjoyment becomes a second thought, completion and accomplishment are always the first. I move fast, drive hard, sleep little, and I am constantly in thought of what I could do more to be better. At some point, I do have to just stop and smell the roses.
I had the pleasure of teaching several classes this week. I do absolutely enjoy what I am doing! I stayed up late putting together play list and studying workout videos. As I was teaching I just had so much happiness inside of me that it completely made my heavy legs light and my tight shoulders loose. This is also how I feel training. I just truly enjoy watching each of you show up each day to work hard towards the goals you have set for yourself. This is a fantastic pleasure for me. I have become a better person because of each of you. Whether it's a good day or one of those days that you are dreading to start or finish with exercise, it's beautiful to watch you just turn it around, or fight hard to finish and get the heck out of the gym.
We do honestly become better when we act with purpose. Of course there will be days when you just do not want to exercise. I so know how this feels. However, if you just put on your purpose hat, go to the gym, exercise with purpose and intensity for 45-60 minutes, then you get to go home with a gold star and one more step further towards accomplishing your goals. With purpose and enjoyment it is a little easier to exert the necessary effort that is needed to be successful, even when everything in our bodies and minds is fighting against it.
If I can offer one piece of advice that has helped me through many soccer games, races, and long days at work it is this:
"Find peace within the chaos."
If we are calm and less resistant, even though it takes insurmountable composure to do so, the struggle will become easier, and this will enable us to enjoy our purpose.
So when you want nothing more to just stay in bed or plop yourself in front of the television with a bowl of junk food, first get a workout in. You will feel better through out the day, sleep more soundly at night, and limit the worries that hang heavily over your head.
This week, no matter how many times you are able to workout, do it with purpose and enjoy every minute of it.
Find peace within the chaos,
