As your trainer it is my intention to provide you with a kick butt work out while we are taking care of your body, mind, and spirit. While each workout is designed to burn fat and boost your metabolism with an innovative and fun style and approach, it is also a pertinent concern of mine to pay attention to how your body responds to each exercise and workout. I consider past and present injuries, as well as medical history, and I do take a look at your occupational repetitive movements and your weekly hobbies and activities. As we progress in our training, it is my approach to continue to challenge your body's physical and mental capabilities. Just like fashion, fitness has become trendy - fancy, innovative exercises and equipment - and with creative movement patterns there is risk for the body to become uncomfortable, rebel against a particular exercise, and to speak to you a warning of displeasure. Within three repetitions of an exercise I believe you as the athlete should understand if the weight is too heavy, too light, or if the exercise is just not for you or causing you harm. I do my best to be creative, to change up the workout frequently, and to present new physical challenges that you can use to mark your progress. However, if a particular exercise is causing you discomfort, makes you feel "funny" or after the workout has caused you inflammation, I really do need to know this. I encourage you be honest with me, to let me know how you feel during a workout, after the workout, if you like what we did, if you are confused by my approach, if you would like to do something else, if you are not feeling well on the day of our session, if you are menstruating, and if you are sick.
Personally, in my own training and even outside of training, taking responsibility for my own health and fitness can be a struggle. I have the tendency to push and push until I pushed too hard and then have to take some time off from exercise because I did not stretch enough before and after a workout; provide my body with the proper nutrition before and after a workout; and give my body the rest it yearns for and requires. It's the new year. We are all ambitious and determined for this year to be the year we feel good about ourselves and achieve the body we desire to have. With this we can be overzealous, impatient, stubborn, careless, and controlled by a dangerous fervor that can and most likely lead to aches and pains and possible injury of the body.
Consistent exercise with a patient, careful, and intelligent approach is the key to remaining injury free and to have less aches and pains through out the day. This is my intention. As exercise becomes more trendy and I attend more fitness conferences the basics of body movement can be forgotten in order to continue to be innovative and creative and keep clients and class participants engaged and excited. However, if we have not mastered the basics, then the body will speak to us; minor aches and pains, muscle twinges here and there, radiating pain, and extreme tightness are all ways the body is communicating to us to take it easy and slow down. I will be more aware of how an exercise and workout affects your body and please continue to speak to me, to inform me, and to help direct me as to how you would like to approach your exercise game plan. We are a team and it is my pleasure to be a part of your investment in yourself! It is my intention to provide you with the best possible care while still making you sweat and push past your present capabilities. Thank you for your continued trust and support. I am looking forward to helping you become the healthiest you can be.
